Call Dr. Kevin Petersen a ‘hero,’ and he will be the first to tell you he’s just doing his job. In addition to surgery, he’s also very good at modesty.
As the co-founder of the non-profit organization Helping Hands Surgical Care, he and his wife Kelly have led a community-supported mission to provide free surgeries to Nevada residents who cannot afford to pay otherwise. They say these patients have fallen through the cracks of our healthcare system, and many of them are struggling to support themselves and their families while dealing with chronic health problems and pain.
After more than two-dozen charity surgeries in less than a year, Dr. Petersen has officially earned the title of “healthcare hero.” He was honored, among many other local medical professionals, for making big contributions at the 2012 Healthcare Heroes event sponsored by Nevada Business Magazine and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nevada.
